First official word on Paris since suicide attempt

Los Angeles - Katherine Jackson says her granddaughter Paris is "in a good place".

The showbiz family's matriarch is one of the appointed guardians to the 15-year-old aspiring actress and says she is recovering well after her apparent suicide attempt in June.

The 83-year-old star told Hello! magazine: She is in a good place, getting the help she needs. She is doing much better.

"The treatment is going good, really good. She's my baby. It's hard for me, really hard. All I want these kids to be is happy."

Paris, daughter of the late Michael Jackson, is currently staying at a $14 000-per-month therapeutic private school, located just outside California, while she recovers.

Michael was a great dad

Katherine - who, alongside her grandson TJ, is guardian to Paris and her brothers Prince, 16, and Blanket, 11 - added Michael was "a very good father" but she doesn't follow all of his parenting methods, such as putting masks over the children's mouths in public.

She added: "They were sheltered a lot when Michael raised them.

"I had thought about it and I said 'I am not going to raise them like that' [wearing masks]. But Michael had a good reason. He was trying to protect them."

She also credits Michael - who died of acute Propofol intoxication just days before he was set to start a run of comeback shows in 2009 - with how "incredibly polite" his children are, adding: "He instilled good manners but it's a different generation, of course, and I don't understand the whole social media thing. They are always on their phones."
