Gareth Cliff kicks off his new show!

2014-05-01 06:00
Johannesburg - Entertainment phenomenon Gareth Cliff will be debuting his new venture at 07:35 on Comedy Central on Thursday morning.

The Gareth Cliff Show Live on Comedy Central will be amply packed with stuff that's in the news and on people's minds - either lampooned as bits on the show, or brought into our world by our community of callers.

Gareth Cliff will share stuff from his own life and real, honest, hilarious stories from the team while encouraging celebrity and non-celebrity guests to open up about their own stories and opinions.

There will also be discussions around your favourite TV shows, including Comedy Central's own hits Daily Show with Jon Stewart and South Park, and comical video clips from the internet and elsewhere.

“The Gareth Cliff Show Live on Comedy Central is thrilling, no-holds-barred TV that imports the unpredictability, excitement and insanity of live radio onto TV, with viewers never knowing what’s going to happen next – so get ready to hang on, and enjoy the ride,” Evert van der Veer, Head of Comedy Central Africa, said.

The highlights of episode 1 include a chat about the day’s big news stories with Gareth and the team, a catch up with the presenters post 5FM, including the revelation of deep dark secrets from Gareth, Leigh-Ann, Damon, Siya and Mabale, an interview with Gareth’s mom and dad, the ceremonial burning of Gareth’s old SABC card and a lively viewer interaction/phone in section.

Anticipated guests in the first week of broadcast include Julius Malema, Prof Van Rooyen (Head of BCCSA), Casper de Vries, Kagiso Lediga, Nomvula Mokonyane, and Jonty Searle, among others.

One thing is for sure, that whole team definitely have a face for radio. As for the tv show, uber boring... Hope it gets better, but I doubt it.

  • Jim Bean - 2014-05-01 08:00

Wait, shouldn't you be able to entertain on Comedy Central ? Or does he serve the coffee and snacks ?

  • niel.bruwer.5 - 2014-05-01 08:12

So many of us... There must be a reason, hey ?

  • Deon Harmse - 2014-05-01 08:27

Gareth is so camp. Why not do a show of being in the closet?

  • Samuel Samillion Sherwen - 2014-05-01 08:47

  • Chappie Abrams - 2014-05-01 08:57

    I certainly couldn't give a damn.

  • MHH - 2014-05-01 09:06

By not being on radio yet being on TV I will never hear him again. With TV you have to have your life at that moment filled with emptiness to be able to bolt your freckle to a chair and watch.... That excludes me 99% of the time unfortunately. Radio gives you entertainment with mobility. I realise I am not like everyone but he will lose many followers this way - unless they time shift the show for later viewing routinely.

  • Ceale Johnston - 2014-05-01 09:06

So boring and stop star-tish. They need music. Poor Lee-ann stood their like a spare part. I loved Gareth on the radio in the morning but this sucks

  • Cyndy Hampson - 2014-05-01 09:08

I wish you Gareth and your team all the best in your new venture. I'll be looking out for your show!!

  • jacqueline.olver.7 - 2014-05-01 09:40

Give the show a fair chance

  • Ina Mienie - 2014-05-01 09:53

I loved it. I suppose we can't all be conformists. Revolutionary unradio!

  • Wayne Hambides - 2014-05-01 10:03

    He is a twat

  • Sarah Bessinger - 2014-05-01 10:05

SO boring watching radio! What happened to it being amply packed??? He had his dog on...genius! Revolutionising radio. NOT!

  • ian.borradaile - 2014-05-01 10:21

"Entertainment phenomenon Gareth Cliff". Entertainment phenomenon??????? Maybe in one small corner of the country. The ZANEWS comical depiction of him is spot on.

  • JeanClaude Vandamme - 2014-05-01 10:26

I didn't even know this Gareth guy until news24 started flinging his name on the home page, marketing?

      Marius Jansen Van Rensburg - 2014-05-01 17:21

Really? So you don't know Idols and/or 5fm either then?

  • Michael Felix - 2014-05-01 11:16

I watched a little this morning. Biggest load of crap from a desperate Gareth Cliff and his clueless minions.

  • Michael Hibbert - 2014-05-01 11:36

Watched a few mins of this show. What a load of rubbish. I could handle him sometimes on 5FM, but this is a total waste of time. I suppose it's on Comedy Central due to the entire show being a joke. He should have kept his SABC access card, instead of hopelessly trying to burn it.

  • Chris Du Preez - 2014-05-01 21:30

Nice face for radio, fortunately the tv slot is when only house wives, kids and the elderly is home.

  • Barbara Klusener Smillie - 2014-05-01 23:05

Disappointing. Car radio is very much alive: hugely relieves stress in traffic & entertains on a boring trip
