Justin Bieber sells Johnson for charity

Los Angeles - Justin Bieber is auctioning his pet snake for charity.

The Never Say Never hitmaker is giving away his baby boa constrictor Johnson, with all the proceeds set to go to the Pencils of Promise, a non-profit organisation that builds schools and increases education opportunities in the developing world.

The reptile had an estimated value of $1 000, but a bid of $1 750 has already been placed on the Charity Buzz website, where the snake is being auctioned, with bidding set to close on November 29.

Justin sponsors Pencils of Promise through his Believe Charity Drive, which he set-up to help non-profit organisations across the world.

'Believe in your dreams'

He said in a statement: "I am launching the Believe Charity Drive because I know firsthand that if you believe in your dreams, everything is possible.

"The Believe Charity Drive directly benefits charities that are making a difference in the world. You can ... donate as little as one dollar, or even donate your time, because everything will make a difference."

In August, the 17-year-old pop star took Johnson to the MTV Video Music Awards as his guest after learning his girlfriend Selena Gomez would be busy conducting interviews for MTV on the red carpet.
