Los Angeles - Miley Cyrus insists she is "okay with being alone".

The Wrecking Ball hitmaker - who split from her boyfriend Patrick Schwarzenegger in April after six months of dating - has admitted she isn't concerned with being single again because she is "a feminist".

She said: "It has a lot to do with being a feminist, but I'm finally okay with being alone. I think that's something we have to talk about more: that you can be alone."

The 22-year-old singer - who recently admitted to having had relationships in the past that "weren't straight" - refuses to put a "label" on her sexuality because she doesn't want to be placed into a category.

She said: "I'm not hiding my sexuality. For me, I don't want to label myself as anything. We love putting people in categories, but what I like sexually isn't going to label me as a person."

The blue-haired beauty - who was also in a four year on-off relationship with actor Liam Hemsworth until September 2013 - added that she doesn't see being in a relationship as a necessary part of her future.

Miley explained to TIME: "There are times in my life where I've had boyfriends or girlfriends. And there are times where I just love being with myself and don't want to give part of myself away to someone else ... I think that's a new freedom for women, especially.

"I don't know that my mother would have been able to be 22 and secure in being alone. But my future doesn't rely on having a partner."

Earlier this week, Miley, 22, launched her Happy Hippie foundation - which aims to help homeless and LGBT young people - and she was particularly "proud" to do so because the launch fell on the birthday of her beloved dog Floyd, who passed away last year.

Speaking during a Facebook Q&A session with fans, she said: "My proudest moment was deff the launch of HH."

Despite her years of career success, the Wrecking Ball hitmaker has never been happier than the day her foundation launched.

She said "I just told my mom yesterday when Happy Hippie launched that it was the best day of my life. I felt like it just started.

"At of all I've done nothing has made me more proud than the launch of HH! (sic)"
