Los Angeles - Miley Cyrus took to Twitter to defend the homeless man, Jesse Helt, whom she took to the MTV Video Music Awards as her date.
After Cyrus had the homeless youth accept her award for Video of the Year on her behalf, Helt was thrust into the spotlight which led to US media revealing that he is a wanted felon in his home state of Oregon.
Miley stood by her new found friend and defended him on Twitter:
People who are homeless have lived very hard lives. Jesse included.

I hope that this can be the start of a national conversation about youth homelessness and how to end it.

Does looking down upon the homeless help people excuse their inaction?

The media never fails to disappoint. You've chosen to go after Jesse instead of covering the issue of youth homelessness :(
