Prince Harry kills Taliban chief - report

2012-12-24 08:33
London - Britain's Prince Harry has killed his first Taliban commander.

The 28-year-old royal - who is currently serving on the frontline in Afghanistan and is nicknamed 'Big H' by his comrades - unleashed a devastating 45kg Hellfire missile on the chief during an attack in October.

One of his comrades told The Sun on Sunday newspaper: "We were on patrol and the Apache helicopters were called in. We heard this posh voice come over the radio and knew it was Big H. they were tracking a Taliban leader - he was commander level.

"The Apache then let off some Hellfire missiles and its 30mm cannon and 'boom'. It was Big H all the way."

'He's one of the lads'

Harry - a gunship co-pilot - is on tour in Helmand and has been flying daily combat missions helping "troops in contact", the code given when ground forces are engaged by enemy fighters and he has become a very popular figure with his comrades.

The insider added: "I met him in the cookhouse. I saw this bloke standing in line and I went, 'That's Big H'. He's like a normal squaddie. All the guys in Afghan have so much respect for him and love him.

"Big H is a legend, he's been out in Afghan and he's doing the business. All the guys love him - he's Big H. He likes a drink and a laugh and he's one of the lads."

The taliban will hunt prince harry now that they know who killed their leader not a good move revealing all that info who knows maybe they will try and bomb the palace too.

      henk63 - 2012-12-24 14:21

I hope that doesn't happen. It will start a new war on a whole new level. Anyway, I am no politician but I think this war, and foreign presence in Iraq and Afghanistan has gone on long enough. I say pull out and keep the borders shut until those countries either sorted out their mess, or else until they all killed each other.

      farnarkler - 2012-12-24 14:32

Maybe getting Harry or bombing the palace might be the spark that ignites the English to grow a pair and get rid of the many undesirables who've infested places like Leicester and Bradford.

      sango.jika - 2012-12-24 14:47

Its all thanks to his comrade troop for hanging his ass online to be taken out. Ask the Americans how those guys roll they don't play.

If this report doesn't paint a large target on his back, for the rest of his life, then nothing will!!!

  • john.buang.39 - 2012-12-24 09:26

What kind of reporting is this?

How can this article be written in such a light hearted manner??? And how on earth can it be listed under entertainment??? Bad form!

Read it with a tear in your eye, whatever make you feel better.

  • truthbetold221 - 2012-12-24 09:27

I think the British are up to something, trying to provoke someone maybe?

  • theMichaelHawthorne - 2012-12-24 09:32

    Probably killed some children too.

      francoisjacques.malan - 2012-12-24 11:04

No probably not, its the Taliban who kill children!

      hanno.jacobs - 2012-12-24 21:05

Of course children are sometimes killed in these attacks. There was an article published not more than 2 weeks ago of an American drone operator who fired a missile only to see a child appear via the on-board camera just before impact - but it's all justified with the word terrorism.

Wow. Is this supposed to be entertaining? A royal hero killing a human being for everyone's pleasure? It doesn't matter if the Taliban leader deserve's it. Taking a life should never be popularized. A soldier is never a hero. A soldier can only ever be an executioner.

      fawzia.bayat - 2012-12-24 16:02

Ditto!!! Some people actually revel in people killing people, what absolutely sick minds they have. Suggestion for the above cretins: Please book one's consult with ones' shrink/ psychologist etc.

  • truthbetold221 - 2012-12-24 10:09

So people are congratulating this prince Hairy for taking a life? Wait until some kid opens fire at a nearby primary school and tells you who inspired him.

  • thabo.modiba.7 - 2012-12-24 10:20

Big H orphaned the kids and turned the wife to a widow.

      francoisjacques.malan - 2012-12-24 11:00

Thabo go Google Bibi Aisha. Women in Afghan are better off as widows and orphans! Their husbands kill and rape them!

      Gorden Norman - 2012-12-24 11:10

Not one wife two or three, the wifes are probably celebrating now freedom at last oh wait his brother will carry on beating them.

  • morne.nortier.98 - 2012-12-24 10:22

And this story is listed under 'entertainment'?

      fawzia.bayat - 2012-12-24 16:07

Someone's brains are short-circuiting, not to mention if not 3/4 of the earth's population. It is a sick, sad, sordid & world with the END OF THE WORLD SYNDROME

  • leila.monroe - 2012-12-24 10:29

Why blame Harry? Its NOT Harry that ran to the papers, its one of his 'comrades'... If u serve in Afghan, there are a chance that u will kill someone, just because its Harry everybody has something to say. And News24 can publish whatever they want, nobody is forcing anybody here to read this this article.

  • jennifer.d.martin.750 - 2012-12-24 10:29

this sounds like rubbish as if the British army would let out any details like these and they certainly wouldn't put it on the entertainment page ...one of his comrades heard a posh accent... this is not news it is speculation from a dubious source!

  • francoisjacques.malan - 2012-12-24 10:55

Harry is saving countless people's lives, including many girls from having their noses and ears being cut off! That is what the Taliban does! I think Harry is a hero!

      dmexico1 - 2012-12-24 18:36

You are a bloody idiot! Killing another should not be glorified whoever the person was. The only thing this article has done is expose the hyprocacy of the british and put a target on harry's back. He is under special protection of the entire british force so shooting a missile at a target is a big whoopee! If he had killed him in a one to one combat, then he should be congratulated and even decorated! For now, he's just a wanna be!

  • francoisjacques.malan - 2012-12-24 10:59

Go check out Bibi Aisha before you comment on Afghanistan!

      fawzia.bayat - 2012-12-24 16:14

Please do revisit your sources, verify your facts, do not generalize or paint all with the same brush. Or have you become the world authority on Bibi Aisha , Afghanistan & the Taliban. • Desperate.Dan61 - 2012-12-24 11:24

Real Clever reporting from the British Military. Now he's a marked man (much more so than before). You can't undo what's been said on the net now. What plonkers the British Military are. I thought they had more sense than this?

      delish7564 - 2012-12-24 15:20

It doesn't say anywhere this report was sanctioned or confirmed by the British Mlitary. I think it's very irresponsible of the media to mention any names....just puts not just Harry, but his colleagues too, in even more danger. Really stupid! @Kyle. You seem to have some serious issues. Do you know Prince Harry personally or are you just going on media gossip? What has he ever done to you? He is a serving officer doing his job, trying to bring freedom from oppression to a country where females are treated little better than animals and the atrocities committed by the Taliban are beyond comprehension. If you agree with the Taliban, why don't you go live over there, then perhaps you might change your tune or perhaps you think it would be ok for your sister, wife, mother etc to be treated so abominably.

  • lance.kay.96 - 2012-12-24 11:55

Well done Harry, one less crazy Taliban to worry about.I think that advertising it all over the place is stupid though. There will most likely be retaliation attacks on the UK over it or even more likely he will be an even bigger target now.

  • aldrin.campbell - 2012-12-24 12:18

And this is entertainment news because???????

  • bernie.sproston - 2012-12-24 12:20

I can't wait for the movie trailer, with that smokey voice over : 1 Royal 1 helicopter Gunship and absolutely nothing left of yet another Taliban Commander. Staring some ginger actor (maybe chuck) and Agmat the suicide bomber puppet.......Why not make it a Christmas special too! ....no I'm not mad- this could happen.

  • carl.clyne - 2012-12-24 13:06

All this talk about making him a target? come on even without killing somebody his picture must be pinned up on every Taliban strong hold in Afghanistan, as long he is there he will always be a prize target.

  • robert.zeelie - 2012-12-24 13:12

Was he the only one that launched some missiles that day. Are you sure it was him that pulled the trigger. This is some crappy story. Trying to fill some space.
