Ryan Gosling fever hits Mother City

Cape Town – Gosling fever sent the Mother City's heat wave into overdrive on Wednesday.

Several social networks were buzzing about the American actor Ryan Gosling's alleged visit to Cape Town.

Gosling is known for the film Drive and his heart-breaking role in The Notebook. He also currently features in The Ides of March.

Gosling was nominated for two Golden Globes, but did not attend the awards ceremony in Los Angeles at the weekend. According to People, George Clooney, his co-actor in The Ides of March, said: "He is in Thailand. I think he's working there."

Proof

Many of Wednesday's tweets alleged that Gosling was playing pool at Stones in Long Street. "He hasn't been here at all. But there were many girls looking for him," the bartender Marcus Gomes-Luis said.

Outside Stones at least nine disappointed girls were speculating about where Gosling could be.

By the afternoon, "Gosling-spotting" was high fashion. Some apparently saw him in Grassy Park, Green Point, and even at the One&Only hotel in Cape Town.

No photos proving Gosling's visit have surfaced as yet.
