SNL funnyman a proud daddy

Los Angeles - Jimmy Fallon has become a father for the first time.

The Late Night host and his wife Nancy welcomed a baby girl on Tuesday at 06:21, his representative confirmed to Us Weekly magazine.

The 38-year-old chat show star is "overjoyed" with the new addition to his family, which also consists of a pet retriever called Gary Frick who often appears on his Emmy-nominated talk show.

Jimmy and his producer wife Nancy have been married since December 2007.

The brunette co-owns commercial film production company Flower Films with her pal Drew Barrymore, which they founded in 2005.

Jimmy is yet to make a public statement about the birth of his daughter, but was happily cracking jokes about Britain's Duchess of Cambridge giving birth to her first child on Monday evening just before his own wife went into labour.

He wrote on Twitter: "Kate Middleton went into labour this morning. When the rest of the royal family heard, they said, ''Oh my God - what's 'labour'?"

The former Saturday Night Live funnyman is due to take over from Jay Leno on NBC's The Tonight Show as of 2014, and will be replaced on Late Night by fellow SNL alumni Seth Meyers.
