Title upgrade for royal baby girl

2013-01-10 13:41
London - Britain's Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's baby will be a princess if it is a girl.

Prince William and Kate Middleton are expecting their first child together and the duke's grandmother Queen Elizabeth has declared that if the couple have a daughter, she will be granted the title of princess.

A notice published in Wednesday's London Gazette announced the decision, reading: "The queen has been pleased by Letters Patent under the Great Seal of the Realm dated 31 December 2012 to declare that all the children of the eldest son of the Prince of Wales should have and enjoy the style, title and attribute of royal highness with the titular dignity of prince or princess prefixed to their Christian names or with such other titles of honour."

Under past rules only a first-born boy born to William and Kate would automatically become a prince, while a daughter would have been called Lady.

Also, if Kate - who is believed to be just over 12 weeks pregnant - has twin boys or a second son at a later date, any second born son would be treated as the son of a Duke and would not be an HRH, but instead would have the title Lord.

The last paragraph of this article is incorrect. ALL CHILDREN BORN to Prince William and Duchess Kate will be titled Prince or Princess. The first born as well as those to follow! "all the children of the eldest son of the Prince of Wales should have and enjoy the style, title and attribute of royal highness" "prince or princess prefixed to their Christian names or with such other titles of honour."

Your misreading the article. But I must admit a bit it is a bit misleading. The last paragraph actually continues the second last paragraph which says "Under past rules" So in the past this (the last paragraph) is what would have happened to their children.

Alexander, It is you who has missed the context of the last paragraph... it begins with the word ALSO... because the paragraph preceding it explains how things would have worked under the OLD RULES. The last paragraph is therefore perfectly correct... in that it explains how things would have been had it not been for the queen's new decree.

I dunno if it skipped your attention, but South Africa is a member of the Commonwealth and Her Majesty and her successors are and will be the head of the Commonwealth. Now, whether or not you want South Africa to be a member of the Commonwealth is a different matter.

People reading 'gossip' about morons who have done nothing other than being born in to privelege. And why exactly are we even in the Commonwealth? Oh yes, its because the local inhabitants were forcibly occupied at some time in their history. And now we are celebrating this achievement, lol. And as for gossip...live your own damn lives and stop living vicariously through others. I care as much for them as they care for Chief Netshidzheve.
