London - Tom Hardy made a sick fan's dream come true by taking her out on a date.
The 35-year-old actor spent a day in London with cancer patient Kayleigh Duff on Monday, treating her to lunch and buying her a diamond necklace as part of a surprise while she was on a break from her treatment.
A meeting with The Dark Knight Rises star was on Kayleigh's wish list - which she drew up after being diagnosed with a rare form of aggressive cancer that killed her dad when she was just eight years old - and once Tom's fiancée, Charlotte Riley, heard about the list, she secretly teamed up with Kayleigh's friend Katie and arranged the special trip.
Kayleigh told The Canterbury Times newspaper: "I nearly died when I saw him. I was shaking - I just thought we were having a day out in London. Tom's fiancée Charlotte and Katie arranged it all without me knowing and he was so lovely and down to earth. We had lunch and tea and scones and he bought me a diamond necklace."
The 23-year-old mother-of-one is battling her illness and although her first course of chemotherapy didn't shrink the tumours on her liver she will start a course of a new combination of drugs in two weeks time.
Katie and her two-year-old son Kai and other family members are jetting off on vacation to Florida to fulfil another one of her wishes.
