Zara Phillips expecting first baby

London - Britain's Zara Phillips is pregnant.

The eldest granddaughter of Queen Elizabeth and her husband Mike Tindall are expecting their first child together in the New Year, Buckingham Palace has announced.

A post on the official website of the British Monarchy stated: “Mr and Mrs Mike Tindall are very pleased to announce that Zara Tindall is expecting a baby in the New Year.”

The 32-year-old blonde's mother Princess Anne and her ex-husband Captain Mark Phillips are “delighted” for their daughter and the professional rugby player.

The post added: “The Princess Royal and Captain Mark Phillips, Mr Phillip and Mrs Linda Tindall, and members of both families are delighted with the news.

“This baby will be the first child for Mike and Zara and the third grandchild for The Princess Royal.''

Zara and Mike tied the knot in July 2011 at the Canongate Kirk in Edinburgh, Scotland.

The couple's news is the second royal baby announcement in the last 12 months after Prince William and Duchess Catherine revealed they were expecting their first child.

Catherine is due to give birth on July 13.
