Cape Town - Anne Hathaway has just announced she won’t be drinking alcohol for the next 17 years in order to be a better mom to her nearly three-year-old son.

During an appearance on The Ellen Show, the Ocean’s 8 actress told host Ellen that she quit drinking in October last year, Us Weekly reports.

"I quit drinking back in October . . . for 18 years," Anne said.

"I’m going to stop drinking while my son is in my house just because I don’t totally love the way I do it, and he’s getting to an age where he really does need me all the time in the morning.

"I did one school run one day where I dropped him off at school. I wasn’t driving, but I was hungover and that was enough for me. I didn’t love that one."

But that wasn’t the only time the 36-year-old didn’t like how she felt after imbibing alcohol.

The actress told the television host about her experience when she was touring rum bars while visiting Mauritius with Serenity co-stars Matthew McConaughey and his wife, Camila Alvez, USA Today reports.

"Wow, and how was that?" DeGeneres asked.

"I don't remember," Anne simply replied, "I have no idea."

"They're both cool, [but] I just can't drink as much as them. We drank the night away, and then I had to go to a meeting with Steven Knight, our director, the next day, and I was just kinda – have you guys ever had to do a meeting hungover?

"I was just kinda stumbling in with one eye open and I was trying to convince him about certain things about my character."
