Cape Town - Austin Powers star Verne Troyer was rushed to hospital on Monday night after a friend called emergency services to his house.
According to reports, police rushed to Verne’s home after getting a call from one of his friends, stating he was “extremely upset, drunk and suicidal”.
The 49-year-old, who’s best known for playing Mini Me in the Austin Powers franchise, is now being treated for possible alcohol poisoning, reports TMZ.
The site also claims the actor is being held at the hospital for 72 hours to undergo an evaluation.
The Blast reports that after arriving at the hospital Verne was placed on an “involuntary psychiatric hold”.
Such restraints are used when a patient is deemed to be “a danger to themselves or others”, the publication further explained.
Verne’s team posted on his Instagram page on Tuesday asking his followers to keep the actor in their thoughts and prayers.
“He’s getting the best care possible and is resting comfortably. Appreciate the support from family, friends and fans around the world.
“We will keep you updated here,” read the caption.

Verne has struggled with alcohol abuse over the years and has had numerous stints in rehab.
This time last year he was hospitalised and spent two weeks in a San Fernando Valley hospital before checking into a rehab facility.
According to Us Weekly, in 2002 the actor almost died from alcohol poisoning.
