Avengers star Evangeline Lilly has angered her legions of fans by refusing to self-isolate.
In an Instagram post on Monday she explained her reasons, saying it was because she values her "freedom" above everything. She also dismissed the coronavirus as just a "respiratory flu".
"Some people value their lives over freedom, some people value freedom over their lives. We all make our choices," the Lost actress responded pointedly within the comments section of her post, clearly making known her stance on the global reaction to the pandemic.
The actress went on to say it was "business as usual" and that her two kids would be doing their usual activities and not staying at home.
"Just dropped my kids off at gymnastics camp. They all washed their hands before going in. They are playing and laughing. #businessasusual," the 40-year-old Ant-Man star wrote.
The actress has an eight-year-old son, Kahekili Kali, with her partner Norman Kali, as well as another child.
But she’s incensed many of her fans, who have blasted for being "selfish" and "irresponsible", especially as she cares for her cancer-stricken dad at home. One wrote "imagine being this dumb and careless".
But Evangeline insisted she was right, saying things were getting too close to martial law.
"The #IGNORANGE is astounding. [eyeroll emoji] You know, carriers with no symptoms do exist," the actress wrote.
"I am living with my father at the moment, who has stage four leukemia. I am also immune compromised at the moment. I have two young kids.
"Those over 60 or with compromised immune systems are considered at the highest risk for Covid-19 and have been urged to stay home by public health officials."
"Where we are right now feels a lot too close to Marshall Law [sic] for my comfort already, all in the name of a respiratory flu," Evangeline wrote in another comment.
"It's unnerving... let's be vigilant right now. And kind. Watchful and gracious – keeping a close eye on our leaders, making sure they don't abuse this moment to steal away more freedoms and grab more power."
