Bow Wow opens up about his lean addiction

Johannesburg - Bow Wow has spoken out about his struggles with addiction to lean following the death of rapper Mac Miller, after an apparent drug overdose.

According to DrugAbuse.com, lean - which is also known as ‘purple drank’, ‘purple lean’ and ‘dirty sprite’ - is a combination of over the counter cough medicine mixed with a soft drink and hard, fruit-flavoured candy.

The rapper confessed through a series of tweets about his past addiction. The 31-year-old revealed that during the time he was working with Omarion on their album Face Off he was high on lean everyday.

According to People magazine, in December 2007, the rapper was rushed to hospital after his concert with Chris Brown and Sean Kingston in Cincinnati because he suffering from a combination of exhaustion and stress but he’s since cleared the air about this event. The Like Mike actor confessed that while he was on tour with Chris, he was on lean everyday and he drank at least seven times a day until he was hospitalised.

His addiction was causing him to experience withdrawal symptoms which caused him to miss a show in Chicago and Baltimore. 

According to Healthline, symptoms of withdrawal may include:

loss of appetite
nausea and vomiting
stomach cramps
diarrhoea
enlarged pupils
chills or goose bumps

Bow Wow also pleaded with the youth to stop the use of drugs.
