Cape Town - Brad Pitt and Bradley Cooper reunited at the National Board of Review Annual Awards Gala in New York City on Wednesday, where Bradley presented the Once Upon a Time in Hollywood actor with an award for the best supporting actor, FOX News reports.

During his acceptance speech Brad credited Bradley as being the reason he got sober.

"I got sober because of this guy and every day has been happier since," he told the audience.

The 56-year-old Hollywood A-lister recently said he spent nearly two years in recovery after his divorce from Angelina Jolie, NBC News reports.

Bradley (45) has been sober for more than 15 years. In an interview in 2012 he revealed that he quit drinking because he believed it would ruin his life, Harper's Bazaar reports. "I don’t drink or do drugs anymore," he told Hollywood Reporter at the time.

"I realised I wasn’t going to live up to my potential, and that scared the hell out of me. I thought, 'Wow, I’m actually gonna ruin my life. I’m really gonna ruin it.'"

The pair have reportedly been friends for years.

"He’s a sweetheart," Brad said of Bradley in his acceptance speech.

"I love you and I thank you."
