Cape Town – Cheryl Cole has unwillingly responded to nasty comments that her mother, Joan Callaghan, was the reason she and Liam split.

Rumours that Joan drove a wedge between the former couple – who have 1-year-old son Bear together – following news of their separation spread, E! News reports.
According to Daily Mail, Joan “got in the way” of Cheryl and Liam’s relationship.
An insider told the British publication: “Cheryl’s mum is part of the problem. She indulges her behaviour and never reprimands her. Instead, Joan will make everyone around Cheryl tow the line.”
“Although Liam initially got on with Cheryl’s mother, in the end he felt that her mum was too much in the way – it was always two against one,” the insider added.
The latest reports prompted Cheryl to share a statement on Twitter, setting the record straight.
“I hate responding to stuff esp at such difficult times but I cannot sit here and listen to such nasty, false articles regarding my mam. I don’t know why they involve her in stories about me,” the Fight For This Love singer wrote.
