Dr. Dre deletes brag post about daughter's college acceptance after $70m donation surfaces

Cape Town – Dr. Dre tried to make a joke about the college bribery scandal, but things didn't quite go according to plan.

The rapper/producer celebrated his 18-year-old daughter, Truly Young, in a since-deleted Instagram post on Saturday for getting accepted to the University of Southern California (USC).

At the same time, he threw some subtle shade at the recent exposure of a scheme in which up to 50 wealthy parents – including Hollywood stars, Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin – allegedly bribed college coaches and other insiders to get their children into some of the nation's most selective schools.

"My daughter got accepted into USC all on her own. No jail time!" Dre wrote alongside a snap of himself and his daughter, according to E! News.

While fellow musicians - including Diddy, T.I. and Timbaland – and fans congratulated Truly, others were quick to point out a hefty donation made by Dre back in 2013.

According to an article on USC's website, Dre and Jimmy Iovine donated $70m to the university "to create a unique undergraduate experience".

The article further states: "The duo’s gift will establish the USC Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young Academy for Arts, Technology and the Business of Innovation, an environment for those rare undergraduate students whose interests span fields such as marketing, business entrepreneurship, computer science and engineering, audio and visual design, and the arts."

In the wake of some of the backlash received, Dre deleted his brag post and has not commented further.
