When Dwyane appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, he opened up about how Zaya wanted to be addressed with the pronouns she/her.

"Zaya, our 12-year-old came home – I don’t know if everyone knows, originally named Zion; Zion as a boy child – came home and said, 'Hey, so I want to talk to you guys. I think I am going forward, I’m ready to live my truth. And I want to be referenced as she and her. I’d like for you guys to call me Zaya'," Dwyane said.

He later told Entertainment Tonight that the family understood it’s not always popular to speak on issues that make people feel uncomfortable but God gave him and the family a platform. "So, we will use it," he said.
