Cape Town - Redmond O’Neal, the son of actor Ryan O’Neal and the late actress Farrah Fawcett, has been charged with attempted murder. He was arrested on Friday after he’d gone on what authorities are calling a “violent crime spree” in the Los Angeles area.
The 33-year-old was charged by the LA County District Attorney with one count of attempted murder, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, one count of criminal threats, one count of brandishing a knife and one count of battery, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
O’Neal, who has a history of drug addiction and legal troubles, allegedly carried out the attacks between 2 and 8 May. The “spree” apparently began when he stabbed a victim “just for looking at him” in Venice Beach.
Three hours later he allegedly left another victim lying in a pool of blood after stabbing him in the face, neck and upper body, Independent UK reports.
Police said Redmond was linked to the crimes after he was arrested on suspicion of robbing a 7-11 store in Santa Monica at knifepoint.
“After O’Neal’s arrest the violent crime spree ended and Pacific Area robbery detectives found O’Neal to strongly match the description of the suspect in these crimes,” the LA Police Department said.
O’Neal is Fawcett’s only child. The Emmy Award-winning actress, best known for her role in the TV series Charlie’s Angels, died of cancer in 2009.
