Cape Town – From runway modelling to acting in A-list movies, Cara Delevingne can now also add author to her résumé.

The 25-year-old is the proud author of Mirror Mirror, a fiction story about “friendship, identity and the fact that appearances can be deceiving.”

The book launched on 5 October and while promoting it on This Morning on Monday Cara opened up about why she initially decided to write the story, crediting her past mental health issues and wanting to help others.

“For me the inspiration was being a teenager, and I have been very open about my time and troubles as a teenager, it’s just a turbulent, mayhem mixture of feelings and hormones.”

Cara adds that because of this she felt it was her duty to write a relatable story.

“I felt like it was my duty, especially now for teenagers who grow up with so much pressure and social media and so many issues with identity and sexuality and family stuff, to write a book which they could connect to.”

In a recent interview with The Edit the Paper Towns actress called being a teenager like “being on a rollercoaster to hell” but put her statement into perspective on This Morning.

“I just think at times unfortunately the things that stick with us the most are actually the darkest times of our lives or most traumatic.”

She continued that she had no idea how to communicate her emotions and was ashamed of that.

“I didn't know how to communicate my emotions. I was so ashamed of how I felt because I had such a privileged upbringing, I'm very lucky. But I had depression. I had moments where I didn't want to carry on living. But then the guilt of feeling that way and not being able to tell anyone because I shouldn't feel that way just left me feeling blame and guilt.

After confronting all these feelings, Cara revealed what the turning point for her was in dealing with her issues.

She told hosts Holly and Phillip: “If you learn to love yourself and not give in to what other people think about you or not care what they think, and just follow your dreams, you can achieve anything.”
