Cape Town – Gabrielle Union shared a powerful message on Instagram on Thursday about embracing your true self.
The 47-year-old was reportedly fired from America's Got Talent for voicing her concerns about the "toxic culture" on the NBC show. In the weeks after, new details of her exit, along with judge Julianne Hough, also came to light. In an exclusive report published by Variety, claims were made that both "received excessive notes on their physical appearance". For the Being Mary Jane star, there was also allegedly racism involved which included her being told her hairstyles were "too black" for the show and their audience, reports E! News.
With her ongoing battle with the show, Gabrielle has taken to Instagram to share a powerful message though, saying she won't "take notes rooted in anti-blackness".
"Unapologetically me," she wrote on a video of herself.
In the background you can hear Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's TEDx talk, We should all be feminists. "Be comfortable and confident with your whole ass self," Gabrielle wrote.
"It might give others the fluuuxxx but never stop being you. You can shine on your own terms. And if you got something to say. I don't take notes rooted in anti-blackness. I love me as I am. (sic)"

The actress often shares empowering messages. Just this week she referenced our new Miss Universe, Zozibini Tunzi's words encouraging girls to take up space.
"You want to set yourself apart from the pack? Be a leader," Gabrielle wrote. "When @zozitunzi spoke about leadership and taking up space, she challenged us all to not go along to get along. Complacency has never inspired change or positive results. She implores us to recognize the value of our VOICES above all else. Do not shrink yourself. Taking up space, being your full authentic self, THAT is the key. THAT is REAL winning!"
