Hollywood actor Tom Hanks, 63, and his actress wife Rita Wilson, 63, are the first A-listers to publicly reveal that they’ve tested positive for the coronavirus.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) on Wednesday declared Covid-19 a pandemic. South Africa currently has 13 people diagnosed with the Covid-19 virus. All the SA cases relate to people who travelled to Europe during March. (Read more here)

According to Deadline, Tom and Rita are both currently in Australia where Tom is doing pre-production for his new project by Baz Luhrmann - a yet untitled film about the life of Elvis Presley.

The two-time Oscar winner is set to play Presley’s longtime manager Colonel Tom Parker in the film.

Tom released the following statement on social media: "Hello, folks. Rita and I are down here in Australia. We felt a bit tired, like we had colds, and some body aches. Rita had some chills that came and went. Slight fevers too. To play things right, as is needed in the world right now, we were tested for the Coronavirus, and were found to be positive.

He added: "Well, now. What to do next? The Medical Officials have protocols that must be followed. We Hanks’ will be tested, observed, and isolated for as long as public health and safety requires.  Not much more to it than a one-day-at-a-time approach, no? We’ll keep the world posted and updated. Take care of yourselves!"
