“I just feel sorry for them,” Demi says about body-shamers

Demi Lovato (25) says she actually feels really sorry for the people who leave negative comments on her social media.

She pities them because “who leaves a negative comment on somebody’s profile on the internet?”

“You have to be kind of sad to do that. So I've taken away the power and it feels great. I posted it because I look so happy.”

In an interview with Ellen Degeneres, Demi said that she has deliberately shared more pictures of herself in swimwear on her social media pages recently.

“I want to show my fans that it’s possible that they can get to that self-love too,” she said.

The singer and actress says she’s found a new strength in the past year.

She spoke about how she has learned, through her new YouTube documentary, Simply Complicated, to accept herself more – flaws and all.

“I’ve learned how to be a voice and not a victim.”

The Sorry Not Sorry singer struggled with bullying, drug and alcohol abuse from an early age. Demi says she used cocaine for the first time when she was 17 years old.

She only sought professional help for the first time when she was 18, after punching one of her dancers.

Although she has been sober for a while, she says she still struggles with her eating disorder, which she talks about in her documentary.

She also shared a picture on Instagram at the end of last year to encourage people to fight back against eating disorders. “I’ve been working on myself for the past year, more so than I’ve ever worked on myself.”

“I’ve surrendered to the process of just learning to love yourself and I think it shows through my pictures,” Demi says.
