Is this the reason Selena and The Weeknd broke up?

Cape Town - Selena Gomez and The Weeknd have called it quits – but could Justin Bieber be the cause of the split?  

According to E! Online, the pair recently ended their romance after 10 months of dating – which has left the couples fans rather surprised about their “sudden” parting.

Especially since the news comes hot on the heels of rumours Justin and the brunette beauty had been cosying up again.

But before you jump to any conclusions, an insider says the relationship was long over before Jelena started hanging out.

"It was more of a mutual break up. They were distant because of work," an insider told E! News. "It didn't end in a bad way. The relationship was basically over before Justin Bieber and Selena hung out."

Selena and The Weeknd (real name Abel Tesfaye) first got their fans talking when they were spotted kissing outside and L.A restaurant back in January. They’ve also made appearances at the Coachella Music Festival, 2017 Met Gala and New York Fashion Week.

Sources have also told People Magazine that the duo has been going “back and forth” for a few months already, which has had a huge impact on their relationship.

“It’s been hard with him being on tour and her shooting in New York. That wasn’t easy on them,” says a source.

An insider said that the two are still in contact and will remain friends. "They have been very grown-up about it."

The Hands to Myself singer was recently spotted spending time with ex Justin – who she dated on-and-off from 2011-2015 – over the past weekend. They were snapped by TMZ grabbing a quick breakfast at a café in California before attending church together.

“Selena is simply trying to make peace with Justin after her illness,' a source told US Weekly on Wednesday. “He has been great to her since her surgery and they are on good terms right now.”

The duo were also pictured together on Sunday, spending some time at the Biebs’ LA pad – and it appears that it was just the two of them behind the walls of the rented home.
