Cape Town – Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux announced their split only a few days ago but the separation was long overdue.
In a joint statement the couple revealed that they had gone their separate ways in December 2017 already “but look forward to continuing our cherished friendship.”
Since their announcement, several sources have revealed the couple were experiencing problems in their relationship for most of last year.
A source told E! News: “They've been separated for two months now, but were having intense issues for about eight months.”
The source added that their bicoastal lifestyles contributed to the strain on their marriage, prompting Justin to call it quits.
“She really tried to make it work with him but the distance was a factor as he only wanted to live in NYC and there was no compromise with her... Their lifestyles were completely incompatible, and ultimately Justin decided to leave.”
According to Us Weekly, Justin would have been happy if he and Jennifer never got married at all.
“He had reservations at the time because they still hadn’t figured out where they were going to live as a couple,” a source explained, adding: “Marriage was always just a piece of paper to Justin, and he didn’t need it.”
Meanwhile as the couple are now faced with divorce proceedings and dividing their belongings according to their prenuptial agreement, People reports that she has the legal right to keep her massive engagement ring.
“The engagement ring pre-dates the marriage, and therefore is Jennifer’s separate property regardless of whether it is mentioned in the prenuptial agreement,” LA-based attorney and certified family law specialist David Glas told the publication.
