Cape Town - Johnny Depp sparked concerns for his health recently after a series of selfies with fans in Russia saw him looking rather thin and pale.

But sources close to the 54-year-old, who has since been spotted in Berlin, say he is in “good health” and there’s no reason for concern, Daily Mail reports.

"Johnny is having a great time on the tour playing with the guys," another source told People.

The father-of-two, currently on tour in Europe with his rock band The Hollywood Vampires, looked nothing like his reputation as one of Hollywood’s biggest heartthrobs with his gaunt face and skinny body.

Social media erupted as the pictures, which were taken in the lobby of a hotel in St Petersburg, went viral with fans wondering if the Fantastic Beasts actor was ill.

"Woah! Is #JohnnyDepp deathly ill or preparing for a ridiculous movie role?” Tweeted one. "This is not the #Edwardscissorhands I had such a #crush on."

"He’s on his way out if he doesn’t get help soon!" another wrote.

Johnny has not yet publicly commented on the photos.

It’s been suggested his drastic new ‘look’ could be down to his last movie – Fantastic Beasts 2. While production wrapped in December he had to shave his head and bleach his eyebrows to play Gellert Grindelwald.

Fans have also speculated that the A-lister could be re-shooting scenes for his upcoming movie Richard Says Goodbye, reports The Sun.

The film, which is in post-production phase, is based on a professor who lives recklessly after being diagnosed with a terminal illness.

"He had to lose weight because his character was diagnosed with a terminal illness," a Twitter user said.

"As this movie is still in post-production maybe that's the reason for him is so thin. So he is not sick!"

It wouldn’t be the first time that the actor has changed his appearance for movie roles.

Johnny altered his look to become Captain Jack Sparrow for the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, reports Mirror News.

His private life has suffered in recent years. He went through a messy divorce from actress Amber Heard and he’s been locked in legal tiffs with his former managers, lawyers and bodyguards.
