Julianne Hough recalls telling her husband she's "not straight"

Cape Town – Actress and dancer, Julianne Hough tied the knot in 2017 with professional hockey player, Brooks Laich, but in an interview with Women's Health, the 31-year-old is revealing how finding her true self completely changed her relationship.

For Julianne, who was diagnosed with endometriosis and just recently revealed her struggle with infertility, loving and accepting her body hasn't always been easy. But when she came to terms with everything and chose to be positive, something changed.

"I was connecting to the woman inside that doesn't need anything, versus the little girl that looked to him to protect me," she said referencing Brooks. "I was like, 'Is he going to love this version of me?'," she wondered, fearing her relationship wouldn't survive a secret she'd been keeping from him.

"I [told him], 'You know I'm not straight, right?' And he was like, 'I'm sorry, what?' I was like, 'I'm not. But I choose to be with you,'".

"I think there's a safety with my husband now that I'm unpacking all of this, and there's no fear of voicing things that I've been afraid to admit or that I've had shame or guilt about because of what I've been told or how I was raised," she said.

But she reassured, "The more I dropped into my most authentic self, the more attracted he was to me. Now we have a more intimate relationship."

Julianne Hough was previously linked to country singer, Chuck Wick, about whom she released her song, Is That So Wrong, before dating Ryan Seacrest.

After dating Brooks for three years, Julianne married the NFL player who refers to his wife as a "champion" and "warrior" in her commitment to growing their family, reports PEOPLE

"She's super supportive and at the same time super challenging," he commented. "We've been together five-and-a-half years, and I can't even remember life before her."

The actress appears fully naked on the September cover of Women's Health, appropriated titled the 'Naked Strength' issue. But it seems she's most vulnerable and completely stripped in her interview – and better for it.
