Cape Town - Fans rooting for Justin Bieber (24) and Selena Gomez (25) were heartbroken when reports surfaced that the couple were once again taking a temporary break.

Maintaining a love affair under public scrutiny and Selena’s family life were cited as reasons for the relationship’s halt, InStyle reports.

But now sources close to Jelena have revealed the couple have officially split and the reason is none other than Selena’s mother, Mandy Teefy (41).

"Selena and Justin decided to take a break mainly because of Selena’s mom and her disapproval of Justin,” an insider told Us Weekly.

"Justin’s family loves Selena, but Selena’s family has put her in a very conflicting spot because they still don’t trust Justin. Selena has tried to convince her family that Justin has changed but her family just isn’t budging right now."

Mandy has never minced her words when it comes to her disapproval of her daughter’s relationship with the Cold Water singer.

In an interview with Gossip Cop last year, the 13 Reasons Why producer said she wasn’t happy with Selena’s rekindled romance to Justin, but added: “Selena is an adult and can make her own choices."

Back then, the mother and daughter even briefly unfollowed each other on Instagram, InStyle notes.

It seems the ever-growing rift between the two has finally caused Jelena to crack.

"Her relationship with Justin has really affected her relationship with her mom and it’s been hard for her because she is super close with her mom. Her mom was her rock when she was having her health complications," the insider also told Us Weekly.

But their latest split might not spell the end of the road for the couple.

According to the source, Justin and Selena are “giving each other some space right now, but are still talking all the time.”

“They will absolutely get back together and they are not over, but they both need some time away from each other.”
