Cape Town – Justin Bieber recently opened about mental illness, his ongoing battle with Lyme Disease and he dependency on drugs.

In episode five of his YouTube docu-series titled The Dark Season, it was revealed that in 2019 the 25-year-old did a series of tests to restore his health entirely. Years of drug use and depression led the star to get help.

The Yummy singer says he started using drugs at the age of 12 or 13, but with all the fame and money, things just got worse. "There was a time when I was sipping lean, popping pills, doing Molly, shrooms, everything," he said. But when he felt "like dying" and during a particularly dark time, he decided to get help.

"My security would come into my room at night to check my pulse. People don't know how serious it got. It was legit crazy, scary. I was waking up in the morning and the first thing I was doing was popping pills and smoking a blunt and starting my day. It just got scary," he recalls.

During the tests, he also found out he had Lyme Disease, an acute recurrent inflammatory infection, and Epstein-Barr, a human herpesvirus commonly referred to as mono.

"He just felt so sick, and there was no explanation for what was going on," Hailey says in the episode. Now, she says, "He's honestly, not only healthier than he's ever been, but on the road to maintaining a healthier life than he's ever had, which is awesome."
