London - Kate Moss has retracted her iconic statement that “nothing tastes as good as skinny feels”.

The 44-year-old supermodel, who was deemed the original face of the “heroin chic” movement, caused huge controversy among campaign groups when she made the bold statement in a 2009 interview with WWD Magazine. The model has now admitted she does not believe the quote to be true and that the industry has improved and become more diverse.

Moss’ controversial words shocked the fashion industry and she was accused of promoting eating disorders, particularly due to her position at the helm of the “waif-like look” following her introduction to modelling aged 14.

Fast-forward 30 years, however, and she is withdrawing the comment, explaining in a new interview that she said the words in jest.

“There’s so much more diversity now, I think it’s right. There are so many different sizes and colours and heights. Why would you just be a one-size model and represent all people?”
