Cape Town - She’d lost her sense of fashion, packed on the pounds and didn’t go out much after her divorce in 2011.
But after she was stopped once too often by frenzied fans who’d mistaken her for model Kate Moss, Denise Ohnana decided to make the most of the resemblance.
“When I split up with my ex-husband eight years ago, I went a bit 'mumsy,'” Denise explains.
“I lost my sense of fashion and gave up on the gym.
“I’d look after the kids day and night and it was more important to run around after them than look after myself.
“Then I started getting people mistaking me for Kate Moss when I’d go anywhere.
“Being told that I could look like Kate Moss picked me back up and I started focusing on myself again.
“I got back into the gym and looking after my appearance and the comments started all over again!”
Denise, from Lancashire in the UK, has even carved out a career for herself using her supermodel looks, Dazeddigital.com reports.
The 39-year-old recently graced the catwalk for French label Vetements’ fall/winter 2021 collection as part of their “doppelgangers” cast.
She was among other models who walked as “Naomi Campbell”, “Mike Tyson”, “Angelina Jolie” and “Snoop Dogg”.
But it was Denise who stole the show, strutting her stuff in a glittering gold slip dress.
It was by chance that she got a foot in the door of the modelling world, writes wmagazine.com.
An assistant of Alison Jackson, an artist who photographs celebrity doppelgangers, discovered Denise on Instagram. Alison insisted Denise take part in a flash mob with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle lookalikes.
"I did the event and met some other lookalikes and thought 'I can do this,'" she says.
Denise says she’s regularly photographed by paparazzi, who mistake her for the star, and mobbed for selfies in clubs and supermarkets.
At first it bothered her but now she’s become used to it.
“When I first started to get papped, I used to get very shy and felt like a fraud because I’m a Fake Moss,” the mom-of-two told Daily Mail.
“But then as time went on I started to enjoy it and now find it very flattering – who wouldn't want to get mistaken for Kate Moss? She's one of the most incredibly iconic women ever!”
And Denise plans on capitalising on the resemblance.
“It's amazing that I've been able to find something that’s transformed me from my frumpy mom lifestyle to a glamorous 'supermodel'.”
