Cape Town - Girls creator Lena Dunham (32) has revealed that she’s been sober for one year.

Actress, writer and producer Dunham took to Instagram on Wednesday to reveal to fans that she’s 365 days sober, People reports.

In October last year the 32-year-old revealed that she’d been abusing the anti-anxiety prescription medication Klonopin, according to Page Six.

"I didn’t know I had an issue with drugs for a long time – because they were doctor prescribed, because I was outwardly successful and not a 'wild-in-da-club' party chick," she said in her post.

"But wouldn’t you say that hurting people you love is an issue? Wouldn’t you say feeling lost and lonely much of the time is an issue?"

The star revealed that she started taking the medication after her anxiety became so overwhelming that it held her back from daily activities and negatively affected her work.

"I was having crazy anxiety and having to show up for things that I didn’t feel equipped to show up for," she explained. "But I know I need to do it, and when I take a Klonopin, I can do it."

Although she’s proud to be celebrating her sobriety milestone, the Hollywood star admits that her world isn’t problem-free, Daily Mail reports.

"Sobriety hasn’t fixed my world. Life is still challenging - that’s the nature of the game,” she wrote in her Instagram post celebrating her sobriety.

"But every day I’m surprised by the richness and depth of, well, reality. I don’t need to escape this beautiful carnival. Instead, I’m on the ride."

To celebrate the milestone, Lena posted a bunch of snaps of herself cuddling her hairless dog Ingrid in bed and treated herself to a cup of warm tea and biscuits on Instagram Stories.
