Mariah Carey split: From love mails to a $50m payout

Los Angeles - James Packer "couldn't wait" to get married to Mariah Carey days ago.

The Australian billionaire has reportedly called off his engagement to the Without You hitmaker but it was only a short time ago that he shared his excitement about their upcoming wedding.

According to TMZ, the e-mail from James to Mariah read: "I'm in love with you and can't wait to get married and be together forever. There's a song I'm listening to now that's got lots of meanings and I hope it makes u smile. When you get caught between the moon and New York City best that you can do is fall in love. All my love, laughter, light, respect and appreciation and admiration ... Thank you my fiancee and soulmate. (sic)"

Meanwhile Mariah is reportedly asking for the Australian billionaire to pay out $50m as a settlement as she believes she had to uproot her life and move to Los Angeles for him.

But a source close to the couple says the mother-of-two - who has five-year-old twins Moroccan and Monroe with her ex-husband Nick Cannon - won't be getting any money but he will let her keep her ring.

A source told the New York Post's Page Six column: "Of course Mariah wants money, but she's not getting $50m. There's no negotiations about money because they haven't spoken since the split.

"He let her keep the ring, and she isn't getting a cent more.

"It is ridiculous to claim that James is the reason for the cancellation of her South America tour. A few days ago she blamed it on the promoters."
