Cape Town - Mel B was reportedly taken to hospital after losing her vision, just weeks before the Spice Girls’ reunion tour is due to start.

The 43-year-old British singer arrived at Moorfields Eye Hospital wearing an eye patch and told doctors that she's "totally blind" in her right eye, The Sun reports.

"She was clearly in a lot of pain," a source at the hospital said.

The Spice Girl, who lost her vision in her left eye after botched laser surgery in 2014, was moved to Luton and Dunstable Hospital's ophthalmology department, where her sight later returned, The New Zealand Herald reports.

"Mel was in a really bad way. The other girls and their managers were really worried," the source continued.

"Mel was frantic and screaming that she couldn't see a thing. She went to the hospital in a chauffeur-driven car with an assistant, who was holding her hand.

"No one knew what brought it on but she had very swift, and very good, treatment."

Another insider told the Daily Mail the singer would continue to receive "specialised treatment".

"It’s unclear if the loss of vision is linked to her previous problems, although it does seem likely," the source said.

Mel's bandmates, Geri Horner (46), Emma Bunton (43) and Melanie Chisholm (45), have reportedly said they'll keep a close eye on her during their tour, which is due to kick off in a few days' time.

"All the girls rallied round her, including Geri. They made sure they weren't behind on rehearsals, which have been going really well," the source added.

"Mel was determined to get back in action and was very brave.

"The situation did cause concern, and it’s something the girls and those around them will monitor closely when the concerts start."
