Los Angeles - Melissa Schuman, 33, of the girl group Dream has filed a police report accusing Backstreet Boys member Nick Carter, 38, of rape.
Schuman claimed in a blog post published in December last year that Carter allegedly forced her to “engage in an act against my will." She said the singer took her virginity.
Carter at the time said he was "shocked and saddened" by accusations made by Schuman who said he raped her about 15 years ago.
He later released a statement saying: "Melissa never expressed to me while we were together or at any time since that anything we did was not consensual."
The Santa Monica Police Department on Thursday confirmed to People Magazine that a complaint against Carter about an early 2003 incident was made and that an investigation is being conducted.
The authorities didn’t identify Schuman but she shared a tweet acknowledging the fact that she had gone to the police: “I’m finally doing what I thought I could no longer do. I’m filing a police report #timesup #bebrave #bethechange #metoo thank you @RAINN [the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network] for empowering me to take this step.”
