Cape Town - Mila Kunis says she totally shocked her mom when she told her she was dating Hollywood star Ashton Kutcher, who is now her husband.
“We were driving up Laurel Canyon [in Los Angeles], and I was like, ‘Mom I have to tell you I’m dating somebody.’ And she was like, ‘Oh tell me! Who are you dating?’ And I was like, ‘You’ve got to brace yourself for this one . . . I’m dating Ashton Kutcher.’ And she literally was like, ‘Shut the f**k up’ in Russian.”
“I was like, ‘No I’m serious. I also may be in love with him so...’ There were so many thoughts that she couldn’t process... There’s so many versions of his life that people thought he was that he wasn’t.”
The 34-year-old Bad Moms star revealed this to fellow actor Dax Shepard during his Armchair Expert podcast on Monday, reports Glamour magazine.
She and Ashton (40) famously met on the set of their hit sitcom That ’70s Show in the late 1990s where they played boyfriend and girlfriend. At the time she was just a teenager while he was in his twenties. She’s gone on record saying Ashton was her “first kiss”.
They only started dating in 2012 after Ashton split from actress Demi Moore, who he married in 2005 (their divorce was finalised in 2013). The former co-stars wed in 2015 and have two kids, daughter Wyatt (3) and son Dimitri (18 months), according to US Weekly.
Mila reckons his divorce may have played a part in her mom’s reaction. “He was post, post, way post-divorce, but I think there were a lot of misconceptions about the divorce,” she said, possibly hinting at the cheating rumours that dogged Ashton. “And because he’s very private, and respectful, he wasn’t gonna go and say anything so he kind of just let rumours be rumours.
“We went into this relationship super-transparent with one another, so we knew 100 percent each other’s faults, we knew exactly who we were... And we were like, ‘I accept you for who you are.’”
She also opened up about her relationship with Macaulay Culkin. She dated the former Home Alone star, who went on to battle drug addiction, from 2002 to 2010 and admits it was she who ended things, reports Fox News.
“It was a horrible, horrible break-up . . . I f**ked up. I was an a**hole in my 20s and I'll be the first to admit it. And that's something that took me a long time to come out and be like, ‘Yeah, you know what, I was a d**k,’ and accept it and I own it.”
Being alone afterwards was good for her, she adds. “When I got to be single I said, I just need to figure myself out. I genuinely need to know why I did what I did and, like, re-group myself as a human being.”
