Cape Town - Miss USA Sarah Rose Summers has been called out after video footage surfaced of the 24-year-old commenting on Miss Cambodia and Miss Vietnam's command of the English language.

The original video was reportedly captured on Miss Colombia, Valeria Morales', Instagram Live during a broadcast from the Miss Universe preliminary competition on Thursday.

"What do you think of Miss Vietnam, Nie?" Sarah asks the group in the video.

"She's so cute and she pretends to know so much English and then you ask her a question after having a whole conversation with her and she goes [nods and smiles]," Sarah says before laughing.

"She's adorable," she adds. Miss Colombia then asks her: "how?" to which she repeats the imitation.

In a second video Sarah says: "Poor Cambodia" after commenting that she can't speak any English at all.

"Miss Cambodia is here and doesn't speak any English and not a single other person speaks her language. Can you imagine?" she asks.

Many have taken to the comment section of the Instagram video, expressing their disappointment in Miss USA, calling her a "bully."

Supporters of the pageant, have rallied behind Miss Cambodia and Miss Vietnam, highlighting that a contestant's ability to speak English does not impact their ability to have a successful reign.
