Nick and Vanessa Lachey's awkward reaction to details in Jessica Simpson's new book

Cape Town – Vanessa and Nick Lachey appeared on Today with Hoda & Jenna recently.

Hoda Kotb mentioned her recent interview with Nick's ex-wife, Jessica Simpson, who dropped her tell-all memoir, Open Book, this week. In it, Jessica revealed intimate details about her life, so of course, much of the bombshells involved Nick in some or other way.

Jessica mentioned her affair with Johnny Knoxville while she was married to Nick, as well as the fact that the two slept together after they finalised their divorce.

"I'll be honest, I obviously haven't read the book, so I don't know what she said or what she revealed there. But, certainly happy for her and her life, I know she is happy for us. There's definitely a mutual respect there," Nick said.

Jessica echoed this in her book, saying the couple even sent her "something beautiful" after her kids were born.

Vanessa Lachey, however, didn't recall that special something.

"I feel bad, I'm sorry, you said somebody sent her... it wasn't us. I didn't... I don't know her address. But thank you whoever sent it from us," she said to the talk show hosts.

The moment was obviously a little awkward, so Vanessa later took to Twitter to clear the air after a fan called the 39-year-old out for denying "doing something nice for Jessica Simpson" saying it was "10000% not necessary... and super awkward".

Vanessa said, "I think it's weird accepting credit for something you didn't do or give. Even weirder to bring up something so random. Just giving facts. Wanted to make sure we were truthful."
