PICS: Ed Sheeran becomes a member of the British Empire

Cape Town – Ed Sheeran was inducted as a Member of the British Empire (MBE) on Thursday at Buckingham Palace.

Inducting the honourees at the Investiture Ceremony was Prince Charles on behalf of Queen Elizabeth. Ed was honoured for his services to music and charity.

Ed called the honour a “full circle thing” telling reporters his grandfather – who was an avid fan of the British monarchy - would be very proud.

“Do you know what I love, my grandfather was a massive royalist, he had all the commemorative plates and stuff, and he died on this day four years ago, so it’s actually quite a nice full circle thing, I guess he’d be pretty proud.”

Other honourees included John Akomfrah, Colonel Hamish Cormack and Olufunke Abimbola-Akindolie.
