Cape Town – Emma Thompson was all of us when she asked Prince William if she could kiss him while receiving her damehood.
The acclaimed actress / screenwriter / activist / author received the insignia of a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday.
Upon receiving her medal from the third in line to the British throne, Prince William, Emma took an opportunity, let’s be honest, everyone would want – she asked the prince for a peck, Hello! magazine reports.
Of course, royal protocol would never allow it and fortunately, William saw the humour in it and politely declined.
Speaking of the moment she shared with the William, Emma said: “I love Prince William! I’ve known him since he was little, and we just sniggered at each other. I said, ‘I can't kiss you, can I?’ And he said, ‘No don't!’” E! News reports.
And the 59-year-old had no hard feelings about William’s rejection.
According to People magazine, she simply said: “If you're first up, you have to be more formal on such an occasion, but he’s looking wonderful and doing so well. He said, ‘This day isn't about me, it's about you’.”
