PICS: Natalie Portman wins the Oscars red carpet with her cape embroidered with snubbed female directors' names

Cape Town – Natalie Portman won the Oscars red carpet on Sunday with her powerful black cape, embroidered with the names of all the female directors' who were snubbed by The Academy.

The 38-year-old wore a black and gold Dior gown, according to Elle, which was paired with a Dior Haute Couture cape.

On the cape were the names Lorene Scafaria (Hustlers), Lulu Wang (The Farewell), Greta Gerwig (Little Women), Marielle Heller (A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood), Melina Matsoukas (Queen & Slim), Alma Har' el (Honey Boy), Céline Sciamma (Portrait of a Lady on Fire) and Mati Diop (Atlantics), reports Variety.

"I wanted to recognise the women who were not recognised for their incredible work this year in my subtle way," Natalie told Los Angeles Times journalist Amy Kaufman, in a clip she later posted on Twitter.

This isn't the first time Natalie called out a prestigious award show for their all-male nominations for best director.

At the 2019 Golden Globes, the Lucy in the Sky star presented the best director award alongside Ron Howard and said, "And here are the all-male nominees."
