Talk-show host Piers Morgan is hitting back at actor George Clooney, who recently said that Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, is being vilified by the media – much like her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana.

The Good Morning Britain host responded to George’s claim by writing a column for the Daily Mail in which he accuses the Money Monster star of being misguided.

“When she met [Prince] Harry, Meghan wasn’t some naive young 19-year-old virgin like Diana. She was a 35-year-old divorcée with a successful acting career who knew exactly what she was doing,” Piers writes.

George, who’s friends with Meghan (37) and Harry (34), compared the constant scrutiny of the duchess to the treatment of the late Princess Diana, honey. Nine reports.

But Piers says the media isn’t to blame for Meghan’s media woes as those vilifying her are her own family members, according to The Sun.

“He [George] is wrong to blame the media for negative headlines driven largely by Meghan’s own family.

“They’re the ones vilifying her because she’s disowned them all, and they understandably feel hurt about that,” he wrote.

Piers refers to Meghan as a social climber and claims she’s “milked all the global fame and attention that’s subsequently come her way with obvious glee”.

He concludes by arguing that if George were Meghan’s true friend, he’d advise her to reconcile with her father, Thomas Markle, rather than allow her friends to attack him in a recent US People magazine interview, in which her closest friends tried to set the record straight about her relationship with her father and alleged difficult behaviour.
