Cape Town - Songstress Pink opened up about her battle with mental health in a recent interview.

The 39-year-old mom-of-two was out promoting her latest studio album, Hurts 2B Human, when she got candid about her mental health journey with Today co-host Carson Daly, Daily Mail reports.

"I think talking about (mental health) is the most important thing. I'm hopeful that the taboo of it’s all going away because more and more people are talking about it," she said.

The singer-songwriter once told Ellen DeGeneres that she couldn’t write songs if she was happy all the time, Popsugar reports.

"Pain is a catalyst for change," she said.

"It's a motivator, it's something worth talking about, and it's something worth having friendships over and connecting with other people."

Pink said she’s hopeful the stigma around mental health will slowly disappear as more people talk about it.

"I know that anxiety is the number one thing that kids now are going through," she told Carson.

"For us, for my generation, I feel like it was depression and suicide. And suicide is super prevalent still, but now it comes from a place of anxiety, and I get that.

"I've been depressed, I have anxiety, I overthink everything."

The What About Us singer revealed she goes to therapy and even attends couples therapy with her husband of 13 years, Carey Hart.

"Carey and I have been to couples counselling almost our entire 17 years we've been together – it's the only reason why we're still together," she said.

Pink and Carey have been married since 2006 and have two children: Daughter Willow (8) and son Jameson (2).

According to USA Today, the star believes sharing her own journey will comfort those who suffer from mental health issues by helping to break the stigma attached to it.
