Susan’s brother Terry, who was the outdoor editor for the Tampa Bay Times, died on 19 May 2016 after suffering a fatal heart attack while taking a lifeguard test with his son, Kai.

The 70-year-old along with her nephew Kai, her niece Nia and sister-in-law Kanika Tomalin first travelled to Kiryandongo, Uganda and stopped by Hope North – a foundation, which Susan is an advocate for, that provides a “safe space for victims of Uganda's civil war to not only live but thrive.”

They also stopped by the David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage in Nairobi, Kenya followed by a hot air balloon trip across the Maasai Mara National Reserve.

They also visited the Ngorongoro Conservation Area in northern Tanzania.

Their most recent stop is Cape Town.
