Cape Town - David “The Hoff” Hasselhoff (66) is not holding back now that he’s a married man.
In a no-holds-barred interview with OK! Magazine the former Baywatch star – who married his Welsh girlfriend, Hayley Roberts (38), last month – threw some serious shade at his two ex-wives, hinting that their relationships weren’t even close to true love.
“This is the very first time I’ve been able to get on my knees and say will you marry me and follow up by getting married from my heart.”
“Hayley has married me for me and it’s a great moment,” he told the magazine, which feature the loved-up pair on its cover.
The Hoff was married to actress and psychic Catherine Hickland (62) between 1984 and 1989 and actress Pamela Bach (53), the mother of his two daughters Hayley (25) and Taylor-Ann (28), between 1989 and 2006.
He met Hayley, a former shop assistant, in 2011 at a hotel in Cardiff, Wales, when she asked for a photograph with him. He in turn asked for her number.
“I was 99 per cent sure she’d say yes, as most people do, but she said no,” David told the magazine. “Then Hayley asked me the question which made me think I might have found the right person.
“She asked, ‘Who did you play on Baywatch?’ She hadn’t grown up watching me. It was nice and refreshing.”
They became engaged in May 2016 however, David admits he had some reservations about tying the knot, mainly over their 27-year age gap as he felt he didn’t want to “take away Hayley's youth”.
“For the longest time I didn’t think it was right to marry Hayley as I was so much older and I didn’t want to take away the fun and the youth and the excitement of growing old together and having children,” he says.
Hayley too admits she was “nervous” about it but that “it doesn’t bother me now”.
“David acts so much younger. He doesn’t see his age,” she says. “I’m probably older than my years. I don’t feel like he’s that much older than me.”
The couple, who live in Los Angeles, wed at a luxury villa in Puglia, Italy, on 31 July. A festive occasion by all accounts, it reportedly featured a pool party, a dance-off and The Hoff singing to his new bride!
