The one thing Serena Williams hopes to teach her daughter about being a strong woman

Cape Town – Serena Williams is many great things, but first and foremost she is the best mom she can be to daughter, Alexis Olympia Ohanian.

The tennis superstar and her husband, Alexis welcomed baby Alexis in September 2017.

Speaking to Robin Roberts on Good Morning America, Serena revealed the one thing she wants to teach her baby girl about being a strong woman.

“Embrace it,” the 37-year-old said without skipping a beat.

“I want to teach her that it’s okay to make the first move, it’s okay to ask and to say, ‘Listen, I want a chance at being in this play. Like put me in. Or just give me this first opportunity.’

“There's so many different ways to showcase that.”

Reminiscing about her own experience, Serena said she learned from an early age to just go for it.

“I literally made the first move,” Serena recalled about signing herself up for her first ever tennis tournament at the age of 14.

“My dad said I was too young and I was so small and I wasn’t ready but I knew I was ready and I made that first move and I want my daughter to be able to do the same thing. We're taught as a society that we have to wait and be second but that’s not true, we can be first. I love being first. I only like being first.”
