Cape Town - It’s official! Joe Jonas (29) and Sophie Turner (23) have tied the knot.

The surprise ceremony took place in Las Vegas shortly after the 2019 Billboard Music Awards where Joe performed with his brothers and Sophie presented, E! Online reports.

The couple headed to Sin City to say their "I do’s" with several of their closest pals in attendance.

The nuptials came as a surprise as the couple had previously talked about getting married in France later this year, nine.com reports.

"They knew they needed to have a legal ceremony in the US and decided a few weeks ago to do it in Vegas after the Billboard Awards," a source told E! News

"Some of their friends and family would be there so it felt like the perfect timing."

According to a source, the couple wanted to tie the knot in the US first so that their marriage is legitimate when they have their ceremony in France, Elle reports.

"In France, a religious ceremony doesn’t constitute a legal marriage," a notice from the US Embassy and Consulates in France reads.

Another source told Entertainment Tonight that Sophie and Joe enjoy living in the moment.

"Joe and Sophie are a couple that love to have fun and live in the moment, and that's exactly what getting hitched in Vegas was," the source said.

"The couple does plan to have a more formal wedding with their family and friends, but this ceremony was just fun. Joe and Sophie are planning to get married in Paris later this year."

Footage of the couple’s Vegas nuptials was broadcast on American DJ Diplo’s Instagram Live.

According to the Daily Mail, Sophie’s mother, Sally, received a heads up about the Vegas wedding even though she wasn’t in attendance.

"Sophie did call me before. She said, 'Mom, I'm getting married in Vegas’'" Sally said.

"I’m absolutely delighted and so is my husband, Andrew."
