Cape Town – Prince Harry and Meghan have revealed the name of their first child together.

An announcement shared on Sussex Royal's official Instagram account on Wednesday said: "The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are pleased to announce they have named their first born child: Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.

"This afternoon Their Royal Highnesses introduced Her Majesty The Queen to her eighth great-grandchild at Windsor Castle. The Duke of Edinburgh and The Duchess’ mother were also present for this special occasion."

Buckingham Palace shared the same photo on Twitter, announcing little Archie's name.

Meghan gave birth to her and Harry's son on Monday, 6 May.

After spending two days together as a new family the royal couple introduced their newborn son at a photo call in St. George's Hall in Windsor Castle. (Click here to see more photos)

"I have the two best guys in the world so I'm really happy," Meghan told supporters as she looked down at her son, sleeping comfortably in his father's arms.

According to Sky News, Archie is of German origin and is the shortened version of Archibald, meaning "bold" or "brave". His second name, Harrison, is of Aboriginal origin and means "son of Henry" or "son of Harry".

Little Archie's name is also a subtle tribute to Harry's late mother, Princess Diana, as one of her ancestors was Archibald Campbell, 9th Earl of Argyll, from Scotland, Us Weekly reports.
