Cape Town - New evidence has come to light in one of the cases pertaining to Usher Raymond’s herpes scandal.

Laura Helm came forward last month and accused the Caught Up singer of infecting her with herpes and sued him for $20 million (R278 million).

In her initial statement the Jazz singer claimed that she and Usher didn’t use protection the second time they slept together – which is when she believes she became infected with the incurable virus.

However, in a phone call recording obtained by TMZ, Laura claimed that she and the 38-year-old artist had protected sex even though she stated otherwise in her lawsuit.

In the recorded telephone conversation with her former publicist, Dennis Byron, Laura said she wasn’t concerned with Usher having the virus.

“That's why they make protection, for people who have STDs,” Laura says in the recording.

She also mentioned that she had no intention of pressing charges against the singer, but two days following this conversation she filed the lawsuit against the You Got It Bad singer.

According to the Daily Mail, Laura’s lawyer Linda West claims that her client lied to Dennis in the July recording because he ‘was trying to get a story to the media about Usher having an affair’.

The recordings have reportedly cast doubt on the accuser’s claims against Usher.

Laura and two others are currently suing Usher for allegedly infecting or putting them in danger of contracting herpes.
